LiviJ's first afternoon back at school went pretty good, but it wore her out. I stayed there with her the whole time and just watched from the corner for a couple of reasons. First, I didn't know how long she would last and I wanted to be there for her to take her home whenever she wanted to. Second, I wanted to see what her daily routine would be like and determine for myself what she could and couldn't do for the remainder of the year.
Everything indoors is pretty low key, nothing too wild. My only concern indoors is their "large group" time which is usually some type of active movement. But, her teachers are very willing to keep her at safe distance from getting hit from other children during this time, and will have to determine on a case by case basis which activities may not be suitable for her to participate in. I appreciate their caring willingness to help and thier understanding that we don't want to reinjure an already damaged area.
Recess also went very well with her "recess box". She wore her helmet like a big girl and I think everyone's already asked her "Why are you wearing that?" So, most of the kids know the story and seem to be very accepting of the fact that she needs to wear that at recess.
By the end of the afternoon I could see the dark circles starting to form around her eyes. She came once and told me she was tired. I said we could leave any time she wanted to, but she wasn't quite ready to do that yet:) It was almost the end of the day anyways, so she stuck it out. Shortly after school she had a very CRABBY spell which is always an indication that she's had enough and needs to relax. She mentioned a couple time's through out the evening that she was tired and her head hurt, so she went to bed early with some tylenol. This morning she woke up refreshed and in a much better mood.
So, she did good, but it's obviously going to still be a little adjustment for her. Friday is her "all day" school, not half day. I think that's a little much to throw at her yet, so I'll probably be bringing her in late and picking her up early and take it one day at a time as she continues to get stronger.
Thanks for checking in!
