And the next picture, of course, deserves a story :)

First of all MiniMe doesn't take naps, so when I found her underneath the blanket sleeping, that was a little surprising. But the bug cage next her? Not so surprising. After her bike, the bug cage is her favorite thing. We catch all sorts of things..lightning bugs, caterpillars, etc. We've even witnessed a caterpillar spin a cacoon and form into a big, beautiful butterfly!
Anyways, I went camping with the in-laws July 6-8 and decided we should move on to catching bigger things, namely a ground squirrel. The two of us had a great time trying to drown out the squirrels and catch them in her cage, but weren't able to get the job done. It wasn't until her 3 older cousins came back from their hike that the hunt got serious. I actually quit the hunt at that point because it was getting a little messy. But they all had a great time!

Finally, one was captured. Into it's new home it went and we fed it left over hamburger and everything. Well, it must have really gotten into the chewing motion because it knawed right through her bug cage and got out. I knew right then that it wasn't the loss of the squirrel that would upset her, but rather the gaping hole in her bug cage. Sure enough when she came over she took one look at her bug cage. Her eyes got big and her jaw dropped in complete dismay. I tried to make light of the situation, laughing about how the "brown squirrel" as she calls it, chewed right through! She was not laughing! I could see her eyes start to well up with tears so I promised her we'd go to the store and buy her another one. So, to no surprise, this bug cage is not leaving her side - and there will be no more pet "brown squirrels" in her future.
